U13 footballers stage great comeback at Urhan

Bantry Blues U13 footballer's started their league campaign with a win away to Urhan on Wednesday, April 4th. Playing against the wind in the first half Bantry were under pressure from the outset. Despite the efforts of full back Liam de la Coeur, Shane McSweeney, Eoghan Minihane and Kevin Coakley, Urhan had built up a lead of 3-5 to 0-1 by half time. Billy Foley was Bantry’s only scorer.

Blues selectors made some changes at the break and Bantry started to get into the game with the wind at their backs from the restart. Midfielders Shane Mc Sweeney and Eoghan Minihane began to get on top and Eoghan broke through the centre of the Urhan defence to hit the net. The backs with Liam de la Coeur in top form and with Michael Hanley, Jack Maguire, Eoin Black and Kevin Coakley playing well were giving nothing away and provided a launching pad for the Bantry comeback. Forwards Billy Foley and Shane Murray got two points each, Matthew Barry scored a point and Shane Mc Sweeney got four points. Two more goals from Eoghan Minihane put Bantry in front. Urhan staged a late rally to try and get something from the game but goalkeeper Sean O Regan and the Blues defence prevented any further scores. At the final whistle the score stood Bantry Blues 3-09, Urhan 3-07. Best for Bantry were Billy Foley, Shane Murray, Kevin Coakley, team captain Shane Mc Sweeney and Eoghan Minihane. Liam de la Coeur was man of the match for Bantry as he had some great clearances and blocks, especially against the wind in the first half.
