Hurlers and Footballers in Action

On Saturday morning last in glorious sunshine, Clonakilty U12 footballers were our guests in Wolfe Tone Park. From the throw-in Bantry were ready for the challenge and Ciaran Thornton opened the scoring with a point, quickly followed by one from Kevin Clifford. Clonakilty got into the game and took the lead with a goal. The first half continued as a very even contest with further Blues points from Ciaran Thornton, Keelan Lynch, Paddy O’Neill and Ayrton Doyle but Clon held the lead by the minimum at the break at 1-4 to six points.

The second half proved to be a very entertaining affair with plenty of scores. Bantry finished on a scoreline of 4-13(25) but went down by a kick of a ball to Clonakiltys 7-07(28). Ayrton Doyle grabbed 2-3 over the half with Paddy O’Neill and Aiden O’Sullivan also getting on the scoresheet.

The following Monday evening Bantry’s U13 hurlers made the short journey to Aughaville to take on Tadhg Mac Carthaigh. With the Blues team missing a couple of players through injury, the Caheragh lads had the best of the first half and were leading by 2-5 to 1-1 at half time, Killian Crowley the Bantry goalscorer.

The home team got a few early goals and it looked like they were going to run out easy winners but a good closing quarter from Bantry brought them back into the game. Unfortunately time ran out for them and it finished Tadhg Mac Carthaigh 5-09, Bantry Blues 2-09. Fine displays all round with James O’Shea good in goals with David O’Sullivan clearing a lot of ball in defence, ably assisted by Greg Cotter and Oisin Bennett. Tom Flynn played well at midfield with James Crowley also having a good second half.
