U13's Lose Out to Haven

This week’s main action was from the U13 footballers and U16 hurlers. On Wednesday May 1st, Castlehaven were our guests in Wolfe Tone Park for the league match with our U13’s. At half time the Haven lead by 3-3 to 1-3, Shane Murray having done the Blues scoring. Castlehaven got the first point of the second half but Bantry pulled the margin down to two points at 2-5 to 3-4 with scores from Shane Crowley and Shane Murray. However the visitors had a very good last ten minutes and got the scores to close out the game and take the league points.
Team: Kuba Ratajczak, James Crowley, Billy Foley, Shane Buckley, James Buckley, Oisin Bennett, Mathew Harley, Shane Crowley (0-1), David O’Sullivan, Tim O’Driscoll, Shane Murray (2-4), Ayrton Doyle, Paddy O’Neill, Tom Flynn, Kevin Clifford. Greg Cotter, Charlie Lavin, Patrick Barry, Luke O’Shaughnessy, Daniel Downey.
On Bank Holiday Monday the U16 hurlers made the long trip to Kilbrittain. On the back of a couple of defeats this performance was much more encouraging. A score of 3-8 will win a lot of matches but goals win games and the concession of some soft ones by the Blues made the difference in this contest.
Bantry had outpointed their opposition in the first half with Tim Foley scoring 1-2 and Killian O’Sullivan and Arthur Coakley with a point apiece but were behind by 1-4 to 4-1 at the break. The sides exchanged goals after the break but Kilbrittain then enjoyed a purple patch to put some daylight between the teams. However, the Blues continued to fight on and points from Sean Hodnett, Killian O’Sullivan and Tim Foley and a gaol by Arthur Coakley kept them in the hunt. At the end Kilbrittain ran out winners but this was a decent performance from Bantry considering a number of players were unavailable on the day. All of the backs played well with Owen O’Flynn, Paddy O’Shea and Danny Hutchinson especially standing out. At midfield Tim Foley and Killian O’Sullivan were very strong and Sean Hodnett and Arthur Coakley were the pick of the forwards.
Team: Sean Cronin, Patrick Casey, Owen O’Flynn, Robyn McCarthy, Paddy O’Shea, Danny Hutchinson, Kieran Daly, Tim Foley (2-3, 3F), Killian O’Sullivan (0-2), Jack McCarthy, Shane McCarthy, Sean Hodnett (0-2), James Lavin, Daniel Murray, Tom Daly, Arthur Coakley (1-1).
