Bantry U14 footballers played in a five team Feile
blitz in Skibbereen on Saturday last. In their first game against Urhan, Blues
led for most of the game and looked to be in control. A leg injury to Sean
Downey seemed to unsettle Bantry’s defence and Urhan scored two late goals to
win the game, final score Bantry Blues 1-5 to Urhan 3-0.
The next game was against Ahán Gaels and Bantry
led at half time in this one by 1-3 to 1-0. A good display in the second half
resulted in a Blues win by 2-7 to 1-2.
Bantry then took on Sam Maguire’s, the top team
in the group. Blues gave away two early goals and were unable to get the scores
needed to get back into the game. Final score, Sam Maguire’s 4-6, Bantry Blues 0-3.
The last game was against Bandon. This was a
very close affair with both teams giving everything despite tiredness setting
in. Bantry led at the break by 1-3 to 0-2. Some great defending in the second
half ensured a good victory with the game ending Bantry Blues 1-5, Bandon 0-2.
