The footballers from Castlehaven provided
the opposition for two age groups in the last week.
On Thursday, May 10th they were
visitors to Wolfe
Tone Park
in the U14 league. After an even first half which Bantry were leading at the
mid point, Castlehaven were in front by 2-03 to Blues 1-02. The home teams
scores were a well taken goal by Barry O’Sullivan and two Daniel Murray pointed
frees.
Bantry started the second half well with
Ronan O’Mahony reducing the Havens lead by hitting 1-1 within minutes of the
restart. However Castlehaven hit back with a goal and a point to restore their
advantage and could have gone further in front but for goalkeeper James Lavin
blocking a shot on goal. Shane McSweeney knocked over a Bantry point but the
visitors started to get on top with a series of points. Despite further Blues
points from Jack McCarthy, Eoghan O’Shea, Daniel Murray and Ronan O’Mahony,
Castlehaven finished the game comfortable winners on a score of Bantry Blues
2-08, Castlehaven 3-13. On the night the better team won, there were good
defensive performances from Aiden O’Sullivan, Robyn McCarthy and Sean Thornton
and the subs who came on all played well.

The following evening the U12’s travelled
to Moneyvolihane
to take on Castlehaven. This fixture was played in two 12-a-side games running
side by side roughly divided into U11’s and U12’s. The U11’s gave a good
account of themselves and were behind by a point at a half time in their game
on a scoreline of one point to two, Kevin Clifford the Blues scorer. Kuba Ratajczak in goals proved to be the hero of the second half as he made
save after save as Castlehaven piled on the pressure. Bantry put up a great
fight but in the end were behind to a good Haven side. Among those who played
well were James O’Shea, Greg Cotter, Aiden O’Sullivan, Kevin Clifford, Ayrton
Doyle, Cillian O'Crulai, Daniel Downey, Charlie Lavin and
Conor O’Shea.
The other game was a high
scoring affair ending in a draw, the final score standing Castlehaven 6-08, Bantry
Blues 7-05. Tom Flynn grabbed a couple of goals in this one, Billy Foley and
Shane Murray were also among the scorers. In goals John Enderson played well,
other who figured were David O’Sullivan, James Crowley, Shane Buckley, Shane
Crowley, Paddy O’Neill, Matthew Harley and Timmy O’Driscoll was prominent.
