Wins for U14 and U16 Footballers

On Monday evening last Bantry U16 footballers were up against Bishopstown in the U16 Premier 2 Football Championship in Clonakilty. In a short time it was obvious to all there that this was a mismatch with Bantry putting the game out of reach well before half time.
The second half was an opportunity to give the allocation of subs a run and Bantry to their credit restricted scoring to points in this half.
Blues did produce a good display of marksmanship with Tim Foley, Arthur Coakley and Shane McCarthy looking sharp and over all the team looked well prepared. Stiffer challenges lie ahead and the team are now in a county quarter final against Thomas Russell’s.
Final score Bantry Blues 4-20, Bishopstown 1-04.
Team: Patrick Casey, Fionn O’Driscoll, Owen O’Flynn, Eoghan O’Shea, Ronan O’Mahony(0-2), Kieran Hanley(0-1), Sean Hodnett, Killian O’Sullivan (0-2), Gavin Cronin(0-1), Arthur Coakley(2-2,1F), Tim Foley(1-7,3F,1 45’), Shane Keevers, Daniel Murray(1-0), Shane McCarthy(0-4), Savo Dragos(0-1). The U14 footballers had a good win over Bandon on Thursday, July 25th on a score of 5-08 to 3-11. Playing at home, Blues got off to a great start and dominated the first half, scoring five goals. Bandon did get back into the game in the second half but with great work from Kevin Coakley and Michael Hanley in the full back line Bantry held out to win by 3 points. This was a very sporting game with good play from both teams and it brought an end to Bandon’s unbeaten league run. Eoghan Minihane and Eric Dowling were on top at midfield and Shane McSweeney's role as an attacking half back set up a lot of moves for his forwards resulting in scores.
