Under 10 Hurlers do well in Dunmanway

Under 10 Hurlers at Monster Blitz on Saturday, May 18th.

Bantry Blues U10 hurlers had their first outing of the season on Saturday last when they travelled to Dunmanway to play in the Monster Hurling Blitz. Their opposition in the three games played were Barryroe, St. Marys and Clonakilty. The focus for the blitz was picking the ball as much as possible rather than ground hurling. All the Bantry lads did very well in each of the games and it was of great benefit for improving their skills and confidence.

The players that travelled on the day were: James Crowley, John Crowley, Jack O'Sullivan, Dara McCarthy, Rory Fitzgerald, Dara McSweeney, Fionn Barry, Owen O'Neill, Paddy Cronin and Christopher Cronin.  Due to various other activities on Saturday some players could not travel, so hopefully all players can attend hurling training in the coming weeks so that we can enter two teams in the next blitz. Well done and thanks to Kevin O'Donovan, GDA for organizing another enjoyable and successful blitz with sixteen teams taking part.

On Monday evening last our U14 footballers were just pipped in Castlehaven on a scoreline of 5-12 to 5-08 in a great game. Both teams played very good football with the lead changing several times throughout the game. Castlehaven scored three early goals to go into the lead but goals by Bill Foley, Tom O Flynn and Eoghan Minihane got Bantry back in the game. With wing backs Sean Downey and Eoin Black playing very well Bantry pushed on and took the lead. However the home team struck with a goal just before half time to level matters at the break at 3-07 apiece.

Second half goals by Kevin Coakley and Ronan Shiels put Bantry in front again and Blues were looking good but Castlehaven got through for two late goals to take the lead so it was at the final whistle.

Bantry's goal keeper James Crowley and midfielder Eoghan Minihane gave superb displays, other players who stood out for the Blues were Bill Foley, David O’Sullivan, Shane Murray, Eric Dowling and Liam de la Coeur.

Team: James Crowley, Michael Hanley, Eric Dowling, Aaron McCarthy, Eoin Black, Liam De La Cour, Sean Downey, Eoghan Minihane, David O’Sullivan, Tom Flynn, Billy Foley, Shane Murray, Matthew Barry, Kevin Coakley, Ronan Shiels. Subs: Liam Coakley, Jacob Adams, James McGlinchey, Jack Maguire.
